History of School Rocael Sum Cotom, known as Rocky, is the director of Ixim Noj, and has 14 years experience in teaching Spanish. Further, Rocky is an instructor offering certificate courses to others who wish to teach Spanish, and all of the teachers available to students at Ixim Noj have been hand-picked by Rocky for their excellence.
Ixim Noj was begun in March 2002, and the name is K'iché for "the wisdom of Corn". Activities and learning opportunities at the school are especially geared to the student who wishes to learn more about the Mayan culture and local Guatemalan politics.
Rocky has been an invited guest 3 times to the United States to give a talk regarding the history, culture and political situation in Guatemala. In 1993 he visited West Virginia and Washington DC to give talks. In 1995 Rocky visited Michigan & Chicago, IL and 1998 he visited California and Iowa.
