Class Activities Students at Ixim Noj will be provided with 1:1 instruction, between 3-5 hours Monday-Friday, with the option of extra-curricular activities and the opportunity for complete immersion in Guatemalan culture. You may live with a Guatemalan family, or in a hostel or in an apartment, according to the preference of the student and economic capacity. We can arrange everything on behalf of the student and provide the proper paperwork to give school credit.
Activities will include the opportunity to view movies and documentaries about Guatemala and Latin America. We also offer lectures about life in Guatemala, and may include discussions of Mayan culture, Guatemalan politics and economics, as well as issues of identity in Guatemala. Lectures will be geared towards the interests of the students and therefore the options are (almost!) endless.
Students will also have the opportunity to attend political activities to learn more about the national reality of Guatemala.
Day trips are arranged to allow the student to leave the city and experience life in indigenous villages in the region, including San Andres Xecul, Zunil, Salcajá, Almolonga y San Francisco el Alto. If the student is interested we can also arrange weekend trips, at additional cost, to climb the volcano Santa Maria or Tajumulco (the highest peak in Central America!), to visit Lake Atitlán or to visit more distant villages like Todos Santos Cuchumatanes.
